What is Agbeli Kaklo?
Agbeli Kaklo, which translates to “cassava balls” in the Ewe language (“agbeli” meaning cassava, “kaklo” meaning fried cake or ball), is a deep-fried snack made from grated cassava. It’s golden, crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, and traditionally enjoyed with fresh coconut for a perfect balance of taste and texture.
Made from simple, locally sourced ingredients — cassava, salt, pepper, and sometimes onions — this snack has stood the test of time because of its irresistible flavor and its deep connection to community.

Agbeli Kaklo has its roots in Ewe culture from Ghana’s Volta Region, where cassava is a staple crop.
